About our company...
Asyst2Cloud is an Asyst Group, Inc. company. While Asyst Group, Inc. has been in business since 1992, the Asyst2Cloud business unit was initiated in 2012. We wanted or business identity to be more clearly aligned with our focus. There has been a buzz in the technology world surrounding "the cloud" for quite a few years. Always with the optimism that good things were on the way. We formed Asyst2Cloud in 2012 because at that point we believed many of the various cloud service products had successfully matured from products with "potential" to products that were practical, cost effective tools capable of strengthening the technology resources available to most most every business (both large and small). The previous buzz and hype of "the cloud" had been realized. Now any size business (even a single employee startup) can have any time, any where, any device access to enterprise class IT resources for a low monthly fee and no significant investment in IT hardware. A potential game changer for most every business.
However, there remains much confusion about what "the cloud" really is. The term is often used, but rarely refined to a clear or concise example. There is quite a variety of cloud service offerings available today that include cloud based storage, servers, applications, databases, and more. One important point to understand is a move to the cloud does not have to be an all or nothing proposition. It is possible (and in most cases preferable) to take advantage of a cloud service offering to enhance one aspect of your current IT infrastructure while leaving other aspects untouched. A prime example of this is the Microsoft Office 365 product. Microsoft Office 365 includes enterprise class and cloud based servers to host your Email using Microsoft Exchange, your Intranet, shared file storage, and more using Microsoft SharePoint, and your employee collaboration and messaging using Microsoft Lync. These components can be easily migrated to the cloud while leaving a specific line of business application (for example, your accounting software) running in your on premise environment. Migrating additional aspects of your on premise IT infrastructure to the cloud can be planned and executed when the timing makes sense for your organization, ensuring a smoother transition and avoiding the potential disruption of wholesale changes to your day to day operations.
So for most businesses the question remains. Is moving to "the cloud" the right move for my business? At Asyst2Cloud our focus is working with you to answer that question. And if the answer is "Yes", we have the experience, the expertise, and the tools to help your business make a successful transition.
About our leadership...
Paul Winters, President Asyst2Cloud
Paul is a veteran of the Information Technology (IT) field, having been hired to his first industry position more than 30 years ago. From the tasks of that first industry position as a computer operator to the leadership and management responsibilities of his more recent role as Chief Information Officer (CIO) for a large, regional, multi-location accounting firm, Paul has had a continuous and successful career in the field of Information Technology. One benefit to having been such an active participant in the evolution of the IT industry over this span of time is that Paul has a depth and breadth of experience few can match. While he may not have seen it all, he sure has seen quite a bit of it.
Paul’s entry into the IT arena was about the time the dominance of the mainframe computer was coming to an end and the era of the minicomputer was beginning. This trend provided more (and generally smaller) companies the opportunity to purchase and leverage computer power to help operate their businesses. Paul’s role at this time was primarily software development (application programming). This entailed authoring, testing, and implementing software applications specific to each particular business. Additional responsibilities included system maintenance tasks (for example, installing operating system updates) as well as end user training and support.
In the next stage of his career, Paul’s interests turned toward the systems analyst role with emphasis on the broader scope of an overall solution rather than the unique or custom programming associated with one particular component of a system. An example would be the design and interoperability of an entire accounting system rather than the specifics of just the payroll component of that system.
The IT industry then underwent a significant change from centralized to de-centralized computing, embracing the power of the personal computer. There was also a change in Paul’s role to that of IT Consultant. As a consultant, Paul’s base of experience grew significantly while assessing the needs of, then proposing and implementing solutions for, a large variety of businesses. The challenges of building sound network infrastructures that included local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), solid server platforms, secure remote access solutions, and integration of data and telephone systems were addressed and managed daily for multiple clients.
As Paul’s consulting skills continued to grow he became a recognized subject matter expert on the paperless office, traveling the country providing implementation consulting services to various businesses on their electronic document management projects. In his role as Director of IT for a large regional accounting firm, he led his team in a highly successful server virtualization project, reducing annual IT infrastructure costs, increasing overall performance, and implementing a solid business continuity and disaster recovery plan.
Over the last several years, Paul has closely monitored the developments of cloud computing as this trend has evolved from more of a buzz word at its start to a practical and cost effective alternative for most businesses today. Paul’s technical expertise and extensive business experience position him very well to help businesses take maximum advantage of the IT products, tools, and platforms available today to provide reliable, secure, anytime, anywhere access to corporate information from just about any device.
